गुरु पूर्णिमा 2026 इस वर्ष बुधवार, 29 जुलाई 2026 को है। यह आषाढ़ मास की शुक्ल पूर्णिमा है, जिसे व्यास पूर्णिमा भी कहते हैं — महर्षि वेद व्यास के प्रकटोत्सव का दिन, जिन्होंने चारों वेदों का विभाजन, अठारह पुराण, महाभारत व ब्रह्मसूत्र की रचना की। यह पर्व गुरु के प्रति कृतज्ञता, समर्पण व दीक्षा-संकल्प का सबसे पवित्र दिन माना जाता है। इस लेख में जानिए गुरु पूर्णिमा की तिथि, महत्व, पूजा-विधि, प्रामाणिक गुरु-मंत्र, गुरु-दीक्षा का सच्चा अर्थ, नियम व आवश्यक सावधानियाँ।

दृक पंचांग (भारतीय मानक समय) के अनुसार आषाढ़ पूर्णिमा तिथि इस प्रकार है:
- पूर्णिमा तिथि आरंभ: मंगलवार, 28 जुलाई 2026 — सायं लगभग 06:18 बजे
- पूर्णिमा तिथि समाप्त: बुधवार, 29 जुलाई 2026 — रात्रि लगभग 08:05 बजे

गुरु पूर्णिमा का महत्व
“गु” का अर्थ है अंधकार और “रु” का अर्थ है उसे हटाने वाला — गुरु वह है जो अज्ञान के अंधकार को हटाकर ज्ञान का प्रकाश देता है। हमारी परंपरा में गुरु को ब्रह्मा, विष्णु व महेश तीनों का स्वरूप कहा गया है, क्योंकि गुरु ही शिष्य में ज्ञान का सृजन करता है, उसका पालन करता है और अविद्या का संहार करता है। आषाढ़ पूर्णिमा को यह पर्व इसलिए मनाया जाता है कि इसी दिन आदिगुरु वेद व्यास जी प्रकट हुए और उन्होंने बिखरे वैदिक ज्ञान को व्यवस्थित रूप देकर मानवता को सौंपा। इसीलिए हर गुरु-परंपरा इस दिन अपने आदिगुरु का पूजन करती है।

गुरु पूर्णिमा पूजा विधि
यह विधि सरल, गृहस्थ-अनुकूल व पूर्णतः सुरक्षित है — इसे कोई भी श्रद्धालु कर सकता है:
- प्रातः स्नान व शुद्धि: सूर्योदय से पूर्व उठकर स्नान करें, स्वच्छ (श्वेत या पीत) वस्त्र धारण करें और पूजा-स्थान को शुद्ध करें।
- संकल्प: पूर्व या उत्तर दिशा की ओर मुख कर आसन पर बैठें; हाथ में जल लेकर गुरु-पूजन का संकल्प लें।
- गुरु-स्थापना: अपने गुरु का चित्र, अथवा वेद व्यास जी या इष्टदेव का चित्र स्वच्छ चौकी पर पीले वस्त्र पर स्थापित करें।
- पंचोपचार पूजन: गंध (चंदन), पुष्प, धूप, दीप व नैवेद्य अर्पित करें; पीले पुष्प व मिष्ठान्न विशेष प्रिय माने गए हैं।
- मंत्र-जप: ऊपर दिए “गुरुर्ब्रह्मा…” श्लोक का 11 या 108 बार श्रद्धापूर्वक पाठ करें; गुरु का ध्यान करें।
- दक्षिणा व सेवा: यथाशक्ति गुरु को दक्षिणा, या अभावग्रस्त को अन्न-वस्त्र-ज्ञान का दान अर्पित करें — यही सच्ची गुरु-दक्षिणा है।
- प्रार्थना: अंत में गुरु से ज्ञान, विवेक व सन्मार्ग पर स्थिर रहने का आशीर्वाद माँगें।
गुरु-दीक्षा का सच्चा अर्थ
“दीक्षा” का अर्थ केवल कोई मंत्र कान में फूँक देना नहीं है। दी अर्थात् दिव्य ज्ञान का दान और क्षा अर्थात् पापों-संस्कारों का क्षय — दीक्षा वह संस्कार है जिसमें गुरु शिष्य को एक साधना-मार्ग, मंत्र व अनुशासन सौंपता है और शिष्य उसे श्रद्धा व नियम से धारण करता है। शास्त्रों में कहा गया है कि उग्र या बीज-प्रधान तांत्रिक मंत्र बिना गुरु-दीक्षा व पुरश्चरण के नहीं जपने चाहिए — क्योंकि गुरु ही उस मंत्र की सही विधि, मात्रा, नियम व रक्षा-कवच प्रदान करता है। गुरु पूर्णिमा दीक्षा-संकल्प लेने या अपने गुरु के प्रति समर्पण को नवीन करने का सर्वश्रेष्ठ दिन है।
गुरु पूर्णिमा के नियम
- इस दिन ब्रह्ममुहूर्त में उठें, संयम रखें और मन-वाणी-कर्म की शुद्धता बनाए रखें।
- तामसिक भोजन (प्याज, लहसुन, मांस, मदिरा) का त्याग करें; सात्त्विक आहार लें।
- गुरु, माता-पिता व विद्यागुरुओं का सम्मान करें; किसी भी गुरुजन के प्रति कटु वचन न कहें।
- यदि गुरु समीप न हों तो उनका ध्यान कर मानसिक रूप से चरण-वंदना करें — भाव ही प्रधान है।
- इस दिन लिया गया कोई सद्-संकल्प (नित्य जप, स्वाध्याय, सेवा) विशेष फलदायी माना जाता है।
आवश्यक सावधानियाँ
- दीक्षा या मंत्र केवल किसी प्रामाणिक, अनुभवी गुरु से ही लें — किसी अपरिचित के भ्रामक दावों में न आएँ।
- साधना केवल आत्म-शुद्धि, रक्षा व कल्याण के भाव से करें; किसी के अहित की भावना साधना को दूषित करती है।
- व्रत-नियम अपने स्वास्थ्य व सामर्थ्य अनुसार ही लें — रोगी, गर्भवती व वृद्धजन सरल पूजन तक सीमित रहें।
- मंत्र-उच्चारण या विधि में संदेह हो तो योग्य आचार्य से मार्गदर्शन अवश्य लें।
प्रेरक प्रसंग — “गुरु बिना ज्ञान अधूरा”
परंपरा में कहा जाता है कि एक शिष्य ने पूछा — “गुरुदेव, जब सब ग्रंथ उपलब्ध हैं, तो गुरु की क्या आवश्यकता?” गुरु ने एक दीपक जलाया और बुझा हुआ दीपक शिष्य को थमाकर कहा — “ग्रंथ बुझे दीपक के समान हैं; ज्ञान तो उनमें है, पर जलेगा तभी जब किसी जलते दीप से स्पर्श पाए। गुरु वही जलता दीप है जो शिष्य के भीतर के दीपक को प्रज्वलित करता है।” गुरु पूर्णिमा इसी स्पर्श — इसी कृतज्ञता का पर्व है।

- Guru Purnima vrat & puja (Udaya tithi): Wednesday, 29 July 2026 — all worship, guru-vandana and diksha are auspicious on this day

The Significance of Guru Purnima
“Gu” means darkness and “ru” means its remover — the guru is the one who removes the darkness of ignorance and gives the light of knowledge. In our tradition the guru is described as the form of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva together, for the guru creates knowledge within the disciple, sustains it, and destroys ignorance. This festival falls on Ashadha Purnima because on this very day the Adi-Guru Veda Vyasa appeared and gave humanity the scattered Vedic knowledge in ordered form. This is why every guru-lineage worships its Adi-Guru on this day.
Guruḥ Sākṣāt Parabrahma Tasmai Śrī Gurave Namaḥ॥ गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः। गुरुः साक्षात् परब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः ॥ — “The guru is Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva; the guru is the very Supreme Reality — to that guru I bow.”
Guru Purnima Puja Vidhi
This method is simple, householder-friendly and completely safe — any devotee may perform it:
- Morning bath & purity: rise before sunrise, bathe, wear clean (white or yellow) clothing, and purify the puja space.
- Sankalpa: sit on an aasan facing east or north; take water in your hand and resolve to perform the guru-puja.
- Establishing the guru: place a picture of your guru — or of Veda Vyasa or your ishta-devata — on a clean platform over a yellow cloth.
- Panchopachara puja: offer sandalwood, flowers, incense, a lamp and naivedya; yellow flowers and sweets are especially dear.
- Mantra-japa: recite the “Gurur Brahma…” shloka above 11 or 108 times with devotion, meditating on the guru.
- Dakshina & seva: offer dakshina to your guru as you can, or give food, clothing or knowledge to the needy — this is the true guru-dakshina.
- Prayer: finally, ask the guru for the blessing of knowledge, discernment and steadiness on the right path.
The True Meaning of Guru-Diksha
“Diksha” does not merely mean whispering a mantra into the ear. Di means the gift of divine knowledge and ksha means the dissolving of one's sins and impressions — diksha is the sacrament in which the guru hands the disciple a path of sadhana, a mantra and a discipline, and the disciple receives it with faith and observance. The shastras state that fierce or seed-dominant tantric mantras must not be chanted without guru-diksha and purashcharana — for it is the guru who provides the correct method, count, rules and protective shield. Guru Purnima is the finest day to take the vow of diksha or to renew one's surrender to one's guru.
Niyams of Guru Purnima
- Rise in the Brahma-muhurta, keep restraint, and maintain purity of thought, speech and action.
- Give up tamasic food (onion, garlic, meat, alcohol); take sattvic food.
- Honour your guru, parents and teachers; speak no harsh word to any elder or teacher.
- If your guru is not near, meditate on them and offer mental prostration — the feeling matters most.
- Any good vow taken on this day (daily japa, study, seva) is said to bear special fruit.
Essential Cautions
- Take diksha or a mantra only from an authentic, experienced guru — do not fall for the misleading claims of strangers.
- Practise only with the intention of self-purification, protection and welfare; any wish to harm another defiles the sadhana.
- Take vows only as your health and capacity allow — the ill, pregnant and elderly should keep to a simple puja.
- If in doubt about pronunciation or method, always seek guidance from a qualified acharya.
A Teaching Story — "Without a Guru, Knowledge Is Incomplete"
Tradition tells of a disciple who asked, "Gurudev, when all the scriptures are available, what need is there of a guru?" The guru lit one lamp, handed an unlit lamp to the disciple and said, "The scriptures are like unlit lamps; the knowledge is within them, but they light up only when touched by an already-burning flame. The guru is that burning flame which kindles the lamp within the disciple." Guru Purnima is the festival of that touch — of that gratitude.
